Volunteer Buddy/Companion (Milestones Trust)

Can you spare a few hours every other week to support our service user to go out into the community and enjoy social activities?

Milestones Trust is a health and social care charity which supports people with learning disabilities, mental health needs and people living with dementia.  The services are provided through a network of residential and nursing care homes throughout the Bristol and South Gloucestershire areas.

A young lady who lives in one of our supported living homes would like a volunteer to accompany her into the community to take part and enjoy activities (for example; Shopping, cinema, theatre, exercise class, coffee shop, pub).  She would also like someone to talk to and increase her social interaction.

The resident is looking for a volunteer who:

  • Is calm and patient
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Has a sense of humour
  • Is available for a few hours every two weeks (or more if possible)
  • Is willing to research and suggest new ideas for activities

No other particular skills are required, but good communication skills, confidence and a desire to help people would be a great advantage.

You will be given induction training and support staff will introduce you to the service user and will ensure you are both happy and confident within the home before supporting with external activities.   We pay travel expenses, and agreed out of pocket expenses.

Please note due to the nature of our service user group a DBS check will be carried out and references will be taken up.

If this sounds like something you would like to get involved in we would love to hear from you.
